What is the big deal about grass fed Galloway beef? Based
on our research and experience, the combination of the Belted
Galloway breed, a pasture grass fed diet and all natural farming
yields a healthy, better tasting and environmentally sustainable
premium beef product.
There is tremendous growth in the grass fed beef business. While
the grass fed segment only makes up about 0.3% of the total US
beef market, annual growth is over 20% per year. Grass
fed beef is now common at premium grocers and on the menus of
top chef’s. Did you see Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa
on Food Network) say she only uses grass fed beef? She
is not the only one!
Grass fed beef offers numerous nutritional benefits. It
is also a true representation of what real beef tastes like.
The beef produced by the Belted Galloway is a very lean, yet
flavorful product. Pasture raised cattle are allowed to
wander the land freely rather than confined to an overcrowded
pen. Feedlot
cattle develop their flavor from fat. The fat comes from
the grains which the cows do not fully process into muscle and
the confinement to a feedlot. Grass fed and pasture raised
cattle develop their flavor from the quality of the grasses they
eat and getting appropriate exercise. We believe that the
combination of our Belted Galloway breed plus the pure grass
fed diet yields a superior tasting and nutritional beef product. |
